Minutes of the Operating Committee of the America First Party
Tuesday, October 29, 2002
BE IT REMEMBERED that the Operating Committee of the America First Party met on Tuesday, October 29, 2002 at 9 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, pursuant to the previous resolution of the Operating Committee.
The meeting was called to order by the Chairman at 9:21 p.m. EST.
The Secretary called the roll of Operating Committee members:
Present:
- Dan Charles of Colorado, Chairman
- Gene Lovell of Georgia, Vice-chairman
- John Pittman Hey of Mississippi, Secretary
- Maureen McHugh of Illinois, Treasurer
- Romelle Winters of New Hampshire, Public Relations Committee Chairman
- Jon Hill of Massachusetts, Finance Committee Chairman
- James D. Jones of Tennessee, Party Building Chairman
Absent:
- James Edwards of Tennessee, Candidates Committee Chairman
Ed Moses of Iowa, Rules Committee Chairman, joined the meeting after the call to order.
The Chairman led the Committee in the Pledge of Allegiance.
The Vice-chairman gave the invocation.
Mrs. McHugh moved the adoption of the Agenda. Her motion was seconded by Mr. Hill. The Agenda was adopted by unanimous vote.
The Chairman gave a report of his campaign trip. He delivered speeches on the United Nations in Michigan and Ohio. He met with candidate Jerry Martin in Ohio, and attended the Traficant Rally in Pennsylvania.
The Chairman reported he would leave for Memphis later this week to help out the Edwards campaign in Tennessee. On the 8th of November, he is scheduled to address the FAIR Convention in Atlanta. Finally, he will appear and speak at the "Freedom Drive" rally on November 14 in Washington, D.C.
The Secretary gave his report. He moved the adoption of the previously circulated minutes of the October 21, 2002 Operating Committee meeting. His motion was seconded by Mr. Lovell and adopted by unanimous vote.
The Secretary reported having shipped out 1200 of the party's new bumper stickers. Finally, he discussed the party building web site report for the last 30 day period, reviewing activity levels for various state parties and organizing committees.
The Operating Committee discussed the need for a National Committee meeting during the middle of November. Because of the elections being held next Tuesday, Mr. Lovell moved to postpone the regular weekly Operating Committee meeting to Thursday, November 7 at 9 p.m. His motion was seconded by Mr. Hill and adopted by unanimous vote.
Mr. Lovell moved that a meeting of the National Committee be called for November 19 at 9 p.m. EST. His motion was seconded by Mrs. McHugh and approved by unanimous vote.
A long discussion was held regarding the party's goals and the formulation of a plan to implement them.
There being no further business, upon motion made by Mr. Hey, seconded by Mr. Lovell, and adopted by unanimous vote, the Chairman declared the meeting adjourned.
