Minutes of the Operating Committee of the America First Party
Tuesday, August 5, 2003
BE IT REMEMBERED that the Operating Committee of the America First Party met on Tuesday, August 5, 2003 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, pursuant to the previous resolution of the Operating Committee.
The Secretary called the roll of Operating Committee members:
Present:
- John Pittman Hey of Mississippi, Secretary
- Maureen McHugh of Illinois, Treasurer
- Jon Hill of Massachusetts, Finance Committee Chairman
Absent:
- Trey Golmon of Mississippi, Ballot Access Committee Chairman
Romelle Winters of New Hampshire, Public Relations Committee Chairman, joined the meeting after the roll call.
A quorum being present, the meeting was called to order by the Secretary at 9:06 p.m. EDT.
The Secretary led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Mr. Hey delivered the invocation.
Mr. Hill moved the adoption of the Agenda as proposed by the Secretary. His motion was seconded by Mrs. Winters and adopted by unanimous vote.
The Secretary reminded the members that he had previously circulated draft minutes of the July 29 meeting of the Operating Committee. He moved the adoption of the July 29 minutes. His motion was seconded by Mrs. Winters and adopted by unanimous vote.
The Treasurer reported that the first payment of $2420 to the Nashville Marriott had been mailed, leaving a total remaining debt of $4840, which will be paid in the next 60 days. She stated that a full report would be circulated prior to next week's National Committee meeting.
The Committee discussed the need to elect a Rules Committee Chairman and to address some rules changes that are needed in the wake of the recent disturbances in the party.
A discussion was had regarding the pending motion before the National Committee to expel the Clarks from the National Committee.
The members discussed some possible media releases regarding various social issues that are now prominent on the national scene.
A discussion was had regarding possible sites for the National Convention this fall.
There being no further business, upon motion made by Mrs. Winters, seconded by Mr. Hill, and adopted by unanimous vote, the Secretary declared the meeting adjourned.
