Minutes of the Operating Committee of the America First Party

Tuesday, November 25, 2003

BE IT REMEMBERED that the Operating Committee of the America First Party met on Tuesday, November 25, 2003 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, pursuant to the previous resolution of the Operating Committee.

The Secretary called the roll of Operating Committee members:

Present:

  • John Francis of Ohio, Chairman
  • Jon Hill of Massachusetts, Vice-chairman
  • John Pittman Hey of Mississippi, Secretary
  • Maureen McHugh of Illinois, Treasurer
  • Romelle Winters of New Hampshire, Public Relations Committee Chairman

Absent:

  • Dan Charles of Colorado, Rules Committee Chairman
  • Larry Carroll of Colorado, Platform Committee Chairman
  • Trey Golmon of Mississippi, Ballot Access Committee Chairman

Tom White of Massachusetts, Party Building Committee Chairman, joined the meeting after the roll call had been taken.

A quorum being present, the meeting was called to order by the Chairman.

Mr. Hey delivered the invocation. The Chairman led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Chairman delivered a short report. The Ohio party has held its elections and elected a strong, qualified chairman. This will free up Mr. Francis, who is contacting other members and trying to engender greater activity in the party.

Mr. Hill described the draft letter that has been circulated for the membership/fundraising drive.

The Secretary reminded the members that he had previously circulated draft minutes of the November 18, 2003 meeting of the Operating Committee. Mr. Hey moved the adoption of the minutes as published. His motion was seconded by Mrs. Winters and adopted by unanimous vote.

The Secretary described his activities for the week, including updating the party building web site, designing mail pieces and submitting them to the printer, punching in all contacts from the toll-free phone line, and finishing design of the membership form.

Mr. White delivered the party building report. The contacts are flooding in, and he has been working hard on the states of California, Georgia, Texas, and Maine. A discussion was had regarding delivery of the membership forms to the prospects in a timely manner. The Secretary stated he would send them out as soon as Mr. White let him know the names and the quantities required. In addition, the color version is at the printers, and will be available and mailed out in a couple of weeks to several thousand prospects.

Mrs. Winters reported she is working on a press release on the trade agreements issue. She intends to work on a release on the Medicare drug bill as well.

The membership drive letter was discussed, and various modifications were proposed. The Committee determined to circulate some additional drafts and solicit additional corrections. The Committee will vote by electronic mail in the next day or two to approve the final copy.

The Chairman raised the question of whether we should attend the "We the People" conference this winter. Efforts will be made to determine who would like to attend and whether we can coordinate those efforts.

There being no further business, upon motion made by Mrs. McHugh, seconded by Mr. White, and adopted by unanimous vote, the Chairman declared the meeting adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,
