Tuesday, January 6, 2004

BE IT REMEMBERED that the Operating Committee of the America First Party met on Tuesday, January 6, 2004 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, pursuant to the previous resolution of the Operating Committee.

The Secretary called the roll of Operating Committee members:

Present:

  • John Francis of Ohio, Chairman
  • John Pittman Hey of Mississippi, Secretary
  • Maureen McHugh of Illinois, Treasurer
  • Tom White of Massachusetts, Party Building Committee Chairman
  • Romelle Winters of New Hampshire, Public Relations Committee Chairman
  • Dan Charles of Colorado, Rules Committee Chairman

Absent:

  • Jon Hill of Massachusetts, Vice-chairman
  • Larry Carroll of Colorado, Platform Committee Chairman
  • Trey Golmon of Mississippi, Ballot Access Committee Chairman

A quorum being present, the meeting was called to order by the Chairman.

Mr. Hey delivered the invocation. The Chairman led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Chairman delivered a report. He described a large meeting being organized in Ohio and another in Indiana. In addition, there are some good developments in Kentucky. A discussion was held regarding the instructions being given to organizers in Indiana relating to activities by persons previously affiliated with the Party.

The Secretary reminded the members that he had previously circulated draft minutes of the December 30, 2003 meeting of the Operating Committee. Mr. Hey moved the adoption of the minutes as published. His motion was seconded by Mr. Francis and adopted by unanimous vote, with Mr. White and Mrs. Winters abstaining.

The Secretary reported that he had mailed out the final copies of the newsletter, and that the supply is now exhausted. Responses are coming in from the Christmas-week mass mailing, and more responses are expected in this week's mail.

The Treasurer reported that the party's bank balance is around $900. She reported progress toward preparing the end of the year FEC filing.

A discussion was held regarding the printing of newsletters, and the price breaks received by increasing the number of newsletters printed at one time.

Mr. White delivered a Party Building Committee report. He has been researching legal questions in various states regarding the establishment of AFP state parties. In addition, he has contacted various individuals in Alaska and numerous other states.

Mr. Charles reported that the Rules Committee is circulating, for final proofing and vote, the proposals for revamped reflector rules.

Mrs. Winters reported on various problems relating to individuals posing as candidates for the AFP nomination for President. She is working on organizing a state party meeting in New Hampshire to elect new officers.

A discussion was held about the need to ramp up activity in the Convention Committee and to get more individuals involved in the Party Building Committee activities.

There being no further business, upon motion made by Mr. Hey, seconded by Mrs. McHugh, and adopted by unanimous vote, the meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,
