Minutes of the Operating Committee of the America First Party

Tuesday, January 13, 2004

BE IT REMEMBERED that the Operating Committee of the America First Party met on Tuesday, January 13, 2004 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, pursuant to the previous resolution of the Operating Committee.

The Secretary called the roll of Operating Committee members:

Present:

  • Jon Hill of Massachusetts, Vice-chairman
  • John Pittman Hey of Mississippi, Secretary
  • Maureen McHugh of Illinois, Treasurer
  • Tom White of Massachusetts, Party Building Committee Chairman
  • Romelle Winters of New Hampshire, Public Relations Committee Chairman
  • Dan Charles of Colorado, Rules Committee Chairman
  • Trey Golmon of Mississippi, Ballot Access Committee Chairman

Absent:

  • John Francis of Ohio, Chairman
  • Larry Carroll of Colorado, Platform Committee Chairman

A quorum being present, the meeting was called to order by the Vice-chairman.

The Vice-chairman led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mrs. McHugh delivered the invocation.

Mr. Hill gave a brief report. He said Mr. Francis was extremely tired and would be taking a rest this evening.

The Secretary reminded the members that he had previously circulated draft minutes of the January 6, 2004 meeting of the Operating Committee. Mr. Charles moved the adoption of the minutes as published. His motion was seconded by Mrs. Winters and adopted by unanimous vote, Mr. Hill and Mr. Golmon abstaining.

The Treasurer reported that the party's bank balance is around $1,200. She is almost finished preparing the end of the year FEC filing.

Mr. Charles reported that the Rules Committee has finished work on the Reflector rules, and that its report is ready for the National Committee's consideration. These new rules take into account the new membership committee and the other changes in the party constitution that were adopted last October. The Rules Committee will begin discussing rules to govern the formation and progress of Organizing Committees.

Mrs. Winters reported work to build the New Hampshire party. She is also working on another immigration press release. The Public Relations Committee will meet shortly to finalize the January newsletter.

Mr. White delivered a Party Building Committee report. He reported encouraging contacts in a half dozen states. A discussion was had regarding maintaining party building activity under the direction of the Party Building committee and its chairman.

An extensive discussion was held regarding organizing committees and various possible contacts in several states.

There being no further business, upon motion made by Mrs. Winters, seconded by Mrs. McHugh, and adopted by unanimous vote, the meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,
