Minutes of the Operating Committee of the America First Party
Tuesday, May 18, 2004
BE IT REMEMBERED that the Operating Committee of the America First Party met on Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, pursuant to the previous resolution of the Operating Committee.
The Chairman led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mr. Hey delivered the invocation.
The Secretary called the roll of Operating Committee members:
Present:
- Dan Charles of Colorado, Chairman
- John Pittman Hey of Mississippi, Secretary/Treasurer
- Tom White of Massachusetts, Party Building Committee Chairman
- Romelle Winters of New Hampshire, Public Relations Committee Chairman
- Jon Hill of Massachusetts, Vice-chairman
Absent:
- Trey Golmon of Mississippi, Ballot Access Committee Chairman
- Larry Carroll of Colorado, Platform Committee Chairman
A quorum being present, the meeting was called to order by the Chairman at 9:17 p.m.
Mr. Hill moved the adoption of the standard Agenda. Mr. White seconded the motion, and the Agenda was adopted by unanimous vote.
The Chairman delivered a brief report. A press release on marriage was sent out yesterday, and another is in preparation. The Chairman reported that he has been making numerous telephone calls and answering electronic mail that he has received.
The Secretary reminded the members that he had previously circulated draft minutes of the May 11, 2004 meeting of the Operating Committee. Mr. Hey moved the adoption of the minutes as published. His motion was seconded by Mr. White and adopted by unanimous vote, Mr. Hill abstaining.
The Secretary reported that another 4400 newsletters have been mailed, leaving approximately 6200 more to be prepared and mailed.
The Treasurer reported that the party's bank balance is $595.61. There is one outstanding invoice for mailing costs yet to be paid in the amount of $1122.35.
Mr. Hill reported that he continues to fulfill the specialty book orders as the Secretary sends him notice of them.
Mr. White reported that the Party Building Committee meeting went well last Saturday. In addition, he has conducted talks with an individual who is eager to run for office in Virginia.
Mrs. Winters stated that the Public Relations Committee will be meeting Thursday evening to discuss the quarterly newsletter.
Mr. Charles reported that the Rules Committee met last Saturday and will meet again in two weeks. Good progress is being made on developing guidelines for bringing up Organizing Committees and new affiliated state parties. When the proposals are finalized, they will be forwarded to the National Committee for adoption.
There being no further business, upon motion made by Mr. Hill, seconded by Mrs. Winters, and adopted by unanimous vote, the meeting was adjourned.
