Minutes of the Operating Committee of the America First Party
Tuesday, June 8, 2004
BE IT REMEMBERED that the Operating Committee of the America First Party met on Tuesday, June 8, 2004 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, pursuant to the previous resolution of the Operating Committee.
The Chairman led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mr. Hey delivered the invocation.
The Secretary called the roll of Operating Committee members:
Present:
- Dan Charles of Colorado, Chairman
- John Pittman Hey of Mississippi, Secretary/Treasurer
- Tom White of Massachusetts, Party Building Committee Chairman
- Jon Hill of Massachusetts, Vice-chairman
- Romelle Winters of New Hampshire, Public Relations Committee Chairman
Absent:
- Trey Golmon of Mississippi, Ballot Access Committee Chairman
- Larry Carroll of Colorado, Platform Committee Chairman
A quorum being present, the meeting was called to order by the Chairman at 9:12 p.m.
Mr. Hill moved the adoption of the standard Agenda. Mrs. Winters seconded the motion, and the Agenda was adopted by unanimous vote.
The Chairman delivered a brief report. He continues to receive and respond to contacts generated by the recent newsletter mailings. Press releases have been going out more regularly. In addition, Mr. Charles is working on Finance Committee related proposals. Finally, he will very shortly circulate a draft of the FAQ page he has been working on.
The Secretary reminded the members that he had previously circulated draft minutes of the June 1, 2004 meeting of the Operating Committee. Mr. Hey moved the adoption of the minutes as published. His motion was seconded by Mr. White, and adopted by unanimous vote.
The Treasurer reported that the party's bank balance is $288.04. There are no outstanding invoices to be paid.
Mr. White stated he has been receiving good contacts from Georgia and the Carolinas. He will resume work after the Reagan funeral, which has many people distracted.
Mrs. Winters stated that the Public Relations Committee met yesterday evening. She has put out a call for PR Committee members from each state. In addition, she hopes that the articles will be completed for the newsletter by the next meeting of the Public Relations Committee.
Mr. Charles reported much progress by the Rules Committee in defining procedures for creating and governing Organizing Committees.
A general discussion was held regarding various calls for unity and coalitions of third parties during this election season.
Mr. Charles reminded the members that the Operating Committee has the duty to prescribe the acceptable formats and attachments for email on the party's reflectors.
Mr. Hey moved the adoption of the following Resolution. The Resolution was seconded by Mrs. Winters. The Resolution reads as follows:
Whereas, numerous attachment types are known to spread viruses, worms, and other types of malicious software; and
Whereas this malicious software can be contained in popular word processing, spreadsheet, and graphics files, compressed archive zipped files, and in files with extentions "exe", "dll", "pif", and others; and
Whereas, pdf files, and plaintext and html formatted text cannot contain such malicious software;
Be it Resolved by the Operating Committee of the America First Party:
That the appropriate types of email content and attachments on the Party Reflectors are as follows: plaintext, html formatting, and pdf files; and
That all messages containing other types of text or attachments are subject to being rejected.
The Resolution was adopted by unanimous vote.
There being no further business, upon motion made by Mr. Hill, seconded by Mrs. Winters, and adopted by unanimous vote, the meeting was adjourned at 10:58 p.m.
