Minutes of the Operating Committee of the America First Party
Tuesday, June 15, 2004
BE IT REMEMBERED that the Operating Committee of the America First Party met on Tuesday, June 15, 2004 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, pursuant to the previous resolution of the Operating Committee.
The Chairman led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mr. Hey delivered the invocation.
The Secretary called the roll of Operating Committee members:
Present:
- Dan Charles of Colorado, Chairman
- John Pittman Hey of Mississippi, Secretary/Treasurer
- Jon Hill of Massachusetts, Vice-chairman
- Romelle Winters of New Hampshire, Public Relations Committee Chairman
Absent:
- Larry Carroll of Colorado, Platform Committee Chairman
Tom White of Massachusetts, Party Building Committee Chairman, and Trey Golmon of Mississippi, Ballot Access Committee Chairman, joined the meeting after the roll call had been taken.
A quorum being present, the meeting was called to order by the Chairman at 9:17 p.m.
Mrs. Winters moved the adoption of the standard Agenda. Mr. Hey seconded the motion, and the Agenda was adopted by unanimous vote.
The Chairman delivered his report. A good deal of time and effort have been expended dealing with various correspondence relating to third parties and organizing for the future. Additional work has been done on press releases for later this week, and new content for the web site.
The Secretary reminded the members that he had previously circulated draft minutes of the June 8, 2004 meeting of the Operating Committee. Mr. Hey moved the adoption of the minutes as published. His motion was seconded by Mrs. Winters, and adopted by unanimous vote, Mr. Golmon abstaining.
The Secretary reported that he is working on technology upgrades for the web site that will enable many new features for party building and communications.
The Treasurer reported that the party's bank balance is $760.85. There are no outstanding invoices to be paid.
Mr. Golmon delivered a brief Ballot Access report on filing deadlines, etc., for the state of South Carolina.
Mr. White stated that there would be a Party Building Committee meeting in eleven days. The Committee will continue work on developing the activist program.
Mrs. Winters reported that Public Relations is working on various releases, and will hold a meeting next Monday to work on the newsletter.
Mr. Charles reported that the Rules Committee will meet again this Saturday to continue to work on Organizing Committee procedures.
A discussion was had regarding posting an article about the failed strategy of most third parties in seeking to elect candidates beyond their reach.
A discussion was had regarding the pricing of promotional literature and the need to get out our message to the general public.
There being no further business, upon motion made by Mr. Hey, seconded by Mr. Hill, and adopted by unanimous vote, the meeting was adjourned at 11:21 p.m.
