Minutes of the Operating Committee of the America First Party
Tuesday, January 25, 2005
BE IT REMEMBERED that the Operating Committee of the America First Party met on Tuesday, January 25, 2005 at 9:00 p.m. East Coast Time, pursuant to the previous resolution of the Operating Committee.
The Chairman led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mr. Hey delivered the invocation.
The Secretary called the roll of Operating Committee members:
Present:
- Dan Charles of Colorado, Chairman
- John Pittman Hey of Mississippi, Secretary/Treasurer
- Jon Hill of Massachusetts, Vice-chairman
- Tom White of Massachusetts, Party Building Committee Chairman
- Romelle Winters of New Hampshire, Public Relations Committee Chairman
- Larry Carroll of Colorado, Platform Committee Chairman
Absent:
- Trey Golmon of Mississippi, Ballot Access Committee Chairman
A quorum being present, the meeting was called to order by the Chairman at 9:14 p.m.
Mrs. Winters moved the adoption of the standard Agenda. Mr. White seconded the motion. The Agenda was adopted by unanimous vote.
The Chairman delivered his report. Yesterday's pro-life press release has gotten some positive notice. Several conservative newsblogs have reproduced it and the Chairman was interviewed by Wildmon's AFR Radio Network. The Chairman continues to work on various committee assignments. He has also been fielding a good number of telephone calls.
A discussion was had regarding fissures developing in the conservative faction of the Republican Party. They appear to be becoming aware of their betrayal by the Bush machine. As a result, the Party is receiving more and more contacts from them as they search for viable alternatives.
The Secretary reminded the members that he had previously circulated draft minutes of the January 18, 2005 meeting of the Operating Committee. Mr. Hey moved the adoption of the minutes as published. His motion was seconded by Mrs. Winters, and adopted by unanimous vote.
The Treasurer reported that the party's bank balance is $436.32.
Mr. Hill reported that the Finance Committee is meeting later this week to work on the long-range fund raising plan.
Mr. White reported that he has been concentrating on Minnesota and Michigan contacts during the past week. He has spoken with several good potential activists in those two states.
A discussion was had regarding the need to recruit additional members for the Platform Committee.
Mrs. Winters reported that the Public Relations Committee will meet again next Monday evening to work on the plans for this upcoming year.
Mr. Charles reported that the Rules Committee has finished work on the proposed Operating Rules for Organizing Committees. The proposals are ready to be forwarded to the National Committee. The Rules Committee will probably meet next in mid-February.
A discussion was held regarding fruitful areas for recruitment of potential activists and party members.
There being no further business, upon motion made by Mr. Hill, seconded by Mrs. Winters, and adopted by unanimous consent, the meeting was adjourned at 10:49 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
