Minutes of the Operating Committee of the America First Party
Tuesday, February 1, 2005
BE IT REMEMBERED that the Operating Committee of the America First Party met on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 at 9:00 p.m. East Coast Time, pursuant to the previous resolution of the Operating Committee.
The Chairman led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mr. Hey delivered the invocation.
The Secretary called the roll of Operating Committee members:
Present:
- Dan Charles of Colorado, Chairman
- John Pittman Hey of Mississippi, Secretary/Treasurer
- Jon Hill of Massachusetts, Vice-chairman
- Tom White of Massachusetts, Party Building Committee Chairman
- Romelle Winters of New Hampshire, Public Relations Committee Chairman
- Trey Golmon of Mississippi, Ballot Access Committee Chairman
Absent:
- Larry Carroll of Colorado, Platform Committee Chairman
A quorum being present, the meeting was called to order by the Chairman at 9:23 p.m.
Mrs. Winters moved the adoption of the standard Agenda. Mr. Hill seconded the motion. The Agenda was adopted by unanimous vote.
The Chairman delivered his report. He has been working diligently with the Finance Committee fundraising proposal, as well as the Public Relations agenda. He has had good interaction with the AFR Network, and his interview was played on their national radio network. Their print media service has also picked up on our recent press release on abortion. The Chairman has also handled heavier than usual electronic mail traffic.
The Secretary reminded the members that he had previously circulated draft minutes of the January 25, 2005 meeting of the Operating Committee. Mr. Hey moved the adoption of the minutes as published. His motion was seconded by Mrs. Winters, and adopted by unanimous vote, Mr. Golmon abstaining.
The Treasurer reported that the party's bank balance is $585.49. A short discussion was held regarding the frequency of filing required by the FEC.
Mr. Golmon reported good progress in preparing a manual for Party Building Committee members. A short discussion was held regarding the Ballot Access Committee's priorities at this stage in the development of the Party.
Mr. Hill reported that the Finance Committee is probably within a week of finalizing its master fundraising plan for presentation to the National Committee.
Mrs. Winters reported appearing on a local television program to promote the Party. The Public Relations Committee will meet again Thursday evening.
Mr. Charles reported that the Rules Committee is taking a short break and will probably meet toward the middle of this month.
A discussion was held regarding Bob Schulz's recent loss in Federal Court to the IRS. The IRS has ramped up its enforcement efforts against tax protestors, recently winning convictions and substantial prison terms. In Schulz's case, the Court stripped taxpayers of the ability to preemptively attack the validity of IRS summons and demands for records.
There being no further business, upon motion made by Mrs. Winters, seconded by Mr. Golmon, and adopted by unanimous consent, the meeting was adjourned at 9:49 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
