Minutes of the Operating Committee of the America First Party
Monday, June 5, 2006
BE IT REMEMBERED that the Operating Committee of the America First Party met on Monday, June 5, 2006 at 9:00 p.m. East Coast Time, pursuant to the previous agreement of all the members.
The Chairman led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mr. Hey delivered the invocation.
The Secretary called the roll of Operating Committee members:
Present:
- Jon Hill of Massachusetts, Chairman
- John Pittman Hey of Mississippi, Secretary/Treasurer
- Tom White of Massachusetts, Candidates Committee Chairman
- JC Schweingrouber of Ohio, Public Relations Committee Chairman
- Joe Spitzig of Ohio, Platform Committee Chairman
- Mike Fleharty of Ohio, Ballot Access Committee Chairman
- Peter Browning of Florida, Party Building Committee
Absent:
- Mike Eller of Michigan, Finance Committee Chairman
- Martin McClellan of Florida, Vice-chairman
A quorum being present, the meeting was called to order by the Chairman at 9:11 p.m.
Mr. White moved the adoption of the standard Agenda. Mr. Browning seconded the motion. The Agenda was adopted by unanimous vote.
The Chairman delivered his report. He reported work to settle in to the new office, including a number of housekeeping matters. A discussion was held regarding the proposed press release about the convention.
The Secretary reminded the members that he had previously circulated draft minutes for the May 30, 2006 meeting of the Operating Committee. Mr. Hey moved the adoption of the minutes as published. His motion was seconded by Mr. White, and adopted by unanimous vote.
The Secretary reported he has been working on post-convention related matters.
The Treasurer reported that the party's bank balance is $3265.88. The final bills for hotel facilities, the copier, and miscellaneous reimbursements for the convention have not yet been received. There is also a disputed invoice for printing that is still pending.
Mr. White delivered the Candidates Committee report. He reported on several contacts with potential candidates.
Mr. Browning delivered a short Party Building Committee report. He is preparing to assess the participation by the various affiliated state parties and connect with each state party building representative.
The Chairman pointed out that the new standing committee chairmen must determine who will remain on their respective committees along with any new members.
Mr. Spitzig stated that he will be working with the Secretary to update the platform documents on the web site.
Mr. Schweingrouber delivered the Public Relations Committee report. He mentioned some persons who have volunteered to serve on the committee. He reported that he is setting up a schedule for teleconferences and deadlines for the next issue of the newsletter.
A discussion was had regarding collecting the photographs that were taken at the Convention. In addition, the need for studio photographs of the Operating Committee members was discussed.
Mr. Hey reported that the Rules Committee does not have any issues outstanding at this time.
There being no further business, upon motion made by Mr. White, seconded by Mr. Browning, and adopted by unanimous consent, the meeting was adjourned at 10:20 p.m.
