Minutes of the Operating Committee of the America First Party
Monday, January 22, 2007
BE IT REMEMBERED that the Operating Committee of the America First Party met on Monday, January 22, 2007 at 9:00 p.m. East Coast Time, pursuant to the previous resolution of the Operating Committee.
The Chairman led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mr. Hey delivered the invocation.
The Secretary called the roll of Operating Committee members:
Present:
- Jon Hill of Massachusetts, Chairman
- John Hey of Mississippi, National Secretary and Treasurer
- J. C. Schweingrouber of Ohio, Public Relations Committee Chairman
- Mike Eller of Michigan, Finance Committee Chairman
- Tom White of Massachusetts, Candidates Committee Chairman
Absent:
- Peter Browning of Florida, Party Building Committee Chairman
- Mike Fleharty of Ohio, Ballot Access Committee Chairman
- Joe Spitzig of Ohio, Platform Committee Chairman
Martin McClellan of Florida, Vice-chairman, joined the meeting after roll had been taken.
A quorum being present, the meeting was called to order by the Chairman at 9:15 p.m.
Mr. White moved the adoption of the standard Agenda. Mr. Eller seconded the motion. The Agenda was adopted by unanimous consent.
The Chairman delivered his report. Two press releases have gone out since the last meeting. The Chairman attended a teleconference meeting of the New York state party. He also reported several other routine business matters.
A discussion took place about electoral strategy and the need to demonstrate activity that is both appealing and effective.
The Secretary reminded the members that he had previously circulated draft minutes for the January 8, 2007 meeting of the Operating Committee. Mr. Hey moved the adoption of the minutes as published. His motion was seconded by Mr. Schweingrouber. The minutes were adopted by unanimous vote, with Mr. White and Mr. McClellan abstaining.
The Treasurer reported that the party's bank balance is $5,806.97. There are no outstanding invoices due at this time.
Mr. White reported that he has been out of the country over the holidays.
Mr. Eller delivered the Finance Committee report. We are to receive some sample buttons from the manufacturer shortly. He is working on placing another order for mugs as well.
A discussion took place about various items to sell in the Party Store, including shirts, caps, buttons and patches.
Mr. Schweingrouber delivered a Public Relations Committee report. He described some of the discussions that took place at last week's committee meeting.
Mr. Hey reported that the Rules Committee is setting up interviews with three new National Committee designees, which should take place hopefully this week or next week.
A time of general discussion was held. Several ideas for building interest in the party and getting our message out better were considered.
There being no further business, on motion made by Mr. Hey, seconded by Mr. White, and adopted by unanimous consent, the meeting was adjourned.
