Minutes of the Operating Committee of the America First Party
Tuesday, June 12, 2007
BE IT REMEMBERED that the Operating Committee of the America First Party met on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at 9:00 p.m. East Coast Time, pursuant to the previous resolution of the Operating Committee.
The Chairman led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mr. Hey delivered the invocation.
The Secretary called the roll of Operating Committee members:
Present:
- Jon Hill of Massachusetts, Chairman
- John Hey of Mississippi, National Secretary and Treasurer
- J. C. Schweingrouber of Ohio, Public Relations Committee Chairman
- Tom White of Massachusetts, Candidates Committee Chairman
Absent:
- Mike Fleharty of Ohio, Ballot Access Committee Chairman
- Joe Spitzig of Ohio, Platform Committee Chairman
- Martin McClellan of Florida, Vice-chairman
A quorum being present, the meeting was called to order by the Chairman at 9:27 p.m.
Mr. Schweingrouber moved the adoption of the standard Agenda. Mr. White seconded the motion. The Agenda was adopted by unanimous consent.
The Chairman delivered his report. A new press release has been issued, and more work done toward articles for the next newspaper. A discussion was held regarding misuse of party reflectors.
The Secretary reminded the members that he had previously circulated draft minutes for the June 5, 2007 meeting of the Operating Committee. Mr. Hey moved the adoption of the minutes as published. His motion was seconded by Mr. White. The minutes were adopted by unanimous vote.
Some discussion was held regarding the toll-free line and calls received.
The Treasurer reported that the party's bank balance is $ 6,137.30. There are no outstanding unpaid invoices due at this time.
Mr. Hill reported that the Finance Committee has voted to approve a new premium for the newspaper of $30 per 100 copies.
The Party Building Committee is considering finalizing the text of the cover letter for the activist program solicitation.
Mr. Schweingrouber delivered the Public Relations Committee report. The Committee will meet this Saturday to continue work on the newspaper.
Mr. Hey reported that the Rules Committee continues on hiatus.
The Chairman pointed out that the Chat Reflector does not currently have a moderator, and that the Operating Committee is empowered to appoint such until the next National Committee meeting.
Mr. White nominated Mr. Hey to serve as Chat moderator. His nomination was seconded by Mr. Schweingrouber. There were no other nominations, and the Chairman declared Mr. Hey elected as the Chat moderator by unanimous consent of the Operating Committee.
Mr. Hey reported the recent court ruling in Mississippi holding that parties have the right to control access and participation in their primaries. The issue of the immorality of voting in other's parties' primaries was discussed.
There being no further business, on motion made by Mr. White, seconded by Mr. Schweingrouber, and adopted by unanimous consent, the meeting was adjourned at 10:34.
