Minutes of the Operating Committee of the America First Party
Monday, June 9, 2008
BE IT REMEMBERED that the Operating Committee of the America First Party met on Monday, June 9, 2008 at 9:00 p.m. East Coast Time, pursuant to the previous resolution of the Operating Committee.
The Chairman led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mr. Hey delivered the invocation.
The Secretary called the roll of Operating Committee members:
Present:
- Jon Hill of Massachusetts, Chairman
- John Hey of Mississippi, National Secretary and Treasurer
- Michael Lynch of New York, Public Relations Committee Chairman
- Peter Browning of Florida, Partybuilding Committee Chairman
- Martin McClellan of Florida, Vice-chairman
Absent:
- Tom White of Massachusetts, Candidates Committee Chairman
- Mike Fleharty of Ohio, Ballot Access Committee Chairman
- Joe Spitzig of Ohio, Platform Committee Chairman
A quorum being present, the meeting was called to order by the Chairman at 9:33 p.m.
Mr. Lynch moved the adoption of the standard Agenda. Mr. McClellan seconded the motion. The Agenda was adopted by unanimous consent.
The Chairman delivered his report. He has finished a major article to the newspaper, issued a press release, and attended various committee meetings. He discussed some concerns about the need for increased activity at all levels of the party.
The Secretary reminded the members that he had previously circulated draft minutes for the May 12, 2008 meeting of the Operating Committee. Mr. Hey moved the adoption of the minutes as published. His motion was seconded by Mr. Browning. The minutes were adopted by unanimous vote.
The fundraising letter has been mailed out and returns are just beginning to come back. All the beginning of the month processes have been completed. The Secretary has also been working on basic technology for the party website.
Mr. Hill described an idea for advertising the newspaper on the website.
The Treasurer reported that the party's bank balance is $ 10,017.71. There are no unpaid invoices at this time. The monthly FEC report has been filed and may be viewed on the FEC's public website.
Mr. Hill reported that the Finance Committee has no business pending before it at the present time.
Mr. Browning delivered the Partybuilding Committee report. He stated that he has contacted several new prospects for party members. The committee has been interviewing potential organizers. He reported some encouraging possibilities in California. He has been working with the South Carolina organizer to get him up and going. He has been working on designing a flow-chart that describes how to build a state party apparatus.
Mr. Lynch reported on progress by the PR Committee on the upcoming issues of the party newspaper. Four articles are almost ready for the next issue. He will be contacting the delinquent authors to get their articles in soon.
Mr. Hey reported that the Rules Committee has voted out a recommended change in the qualifications of organizers. The National Committee would need to take that matter up. He suggested a national committee meeting be called for two weeks from now.
Mr. Hey moved that a teleconference meeting of the National Committee be called for Tuesday evening, June 24, 2008 at 9 p.m. East Coast time. His motion was seconded by Mr. Browning and adopted by unanimous vote.
A time of general discussion took place.
There being no further business, on motion made by Mr. McClellan, seconded by Mr. Lynch, and adopted by unanimous vote, the meeting was adjourned at 10:22 p.m.
