Minutes of the Operating Committee of the America First Party
Monday, September 1, 2008
BE IT REMEMBERED that the Operating Committee of the America First Party met on Monday, September 1, 2008 at 9:00 p.m. East Coast Time, pursuant to the previous resolution of the Operating Committee.
The Chairman led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mr. Hey delivered the invocation. God's mercy and protection were requested for those persons in the path of Hurricane Gustav, including our chairman emeritus Dan Charles.
The Secretary called the roll of Operating Committee members:
Present:
- Jon Hill of Massachusetts, Chairman
- John Hey of Mississippi, National Secretary and Treasurer
- Michael Lynch of New York, Public Relations Committee Chairman
- Peter Browning of Florida, Partybuilding Committee Chairman
- Tom White of Massachusetts, Candidates Committee Chairman
Absent:
- Martin McClellan of Florida, Vice-chairman
- Joe Spitzig of Ohio, Platform Committee Chairman
A quorum being present, the meeting was called to order by the Chairman at 9:20 p.m.
Mr. White moved the adoption of the standard Agenda. Mr. Lynch seconded the motion. The Agenda was adopted by unanimous consent.
The Chairman delivered his report. He has prepared a draft of the next fundraising letter, and is working on a new press release on the instability in the country of Georgia.
The Secretary reminded the members that he had previously circulated draft minutes for the August 25, 2008 meeting of the Operating Committee. Mr. Hey moved the adoption of the minutes as published. His motion was seconded by Mr. Lynch. The minutes were adopted by unanimous vote, Mr. White abstaining.
Another 2000 newspapers were mailed last Thursday. Contributions from the first mailing have just begun to come back.
The Treasurer reported that the party's bank balance is $ 10,130.80. There are no unpaid invoices at this time.
Mr. Hill reported that the Finance Committee is about to approve the fundraising letter draft for mailing to the party members and supporters.
Mr. Browning delivered the Partybuilding Committee report. The committee will be meeting next Thursday evening. He reported that the Florida party is considering endorsing a local candidate.
Mr. Lynch reported the PR Committee is meeting this Saturday to work on the fall newspaper, as well as updating the introductory newsletter.
A time of general discussion took place.
There being no further business, on motion made by Mr. Hey, seconded by Mr. Browning, and adopted by unanimous vote, the meeting was adjourned at 10:05 p.m.
