Minutes of the Operating Committee of the America First Party
Monday, September 8, 2008
BE IT REMEMBERED that the Operating Committee of the America First Party met on Monday, September 8, 2008 at 9:00 p.m. East Coast Time, pursuant to the previous resolution of the Operating Committee.
The Chairman led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mr. Hey delivered the invocation. Prayer was said for the restoration of normality for those persons displaced by the bad weather last week, and thanksgiving was offered for the safety of friends and members.
The Secretary called the roll of Operating Committee members:
Present:
- Jon Hill of Massachusetts, Chairman
- John Hey of Mississippi, National Secretary and Treasurer
- Michael Lynch of New York, Public Relations Committee Chairman
- Peter Browning of Florida, Partybuilding Committee Chairman
Absent:
- Tom White of Massachusetts, Candidates Committee Chairman
- Martin McClellan of Florida, Vice-chairman
- Joe Spitzig of Ohio, Platform Committee Chairman
A quorum being present, the meeting was called to order by the Chairman at 9:30 p.m.
Mr. Lynch moved the adoption of the standard Agenda. Mr. Browning seconded the motion. The Agenda was adopted by unanimous consent.
The Chairman delivered his report. He has updated his review of the ballot access issues related to a possible endorsement by the party. He has been busy working on various committee related matters.
The Secretary reminded the members that he had previously circulated draft minutes for the September 1, 2008 meeting of the Operating Committee. Mr. Hey moved the adoption of the minutes as published. His motion was seconded by Mr. Lynch. The minutes were adopted by unanimous vote.
The final 1060 newspapers were mailed last Friday. Contributions from the first mailing have begun to come back. He mentioned several responses that were of interest.
The Treasurer reported that the party's bank balance is $ 8,583.41. There are no unpaid invoices at this time.
Mr. Hill reported that the Finance Committee is still working to approve the fundraising letter draft for mailing to the party members and supporters.
Mr. Browning delivered the Partybuilding Committee report. He reported on contacts the party has received in the past week. He reported some of the good ideas that were discussed at last week's Partybuilding Committee meeting, and the follow-up work he has begun to implement them.
A discussion was had on the advantages of creating a "Patriot Alert" email list to promote instant-action items to our members and supporters.
Mr. Lynch reported the PR Committee met last Saturday to work on the upcoming newspaper and to update the newsletter for reprinting.
A time of general discussion took place. The issue of whether we should endorse or recommend a candidate for President was examined.
There being no further business, on motion made by Mr. Lynch, seconded by Mr. Browning, and adopted by unanimous vote, the meeting was adjourned at 10:26 p.m.
