New Party Formed: Mission and Principles Adopted

Boulder, CO —  On the evening of April 15, 2002, just hours after ending their state parties’ affiliation with the Reform Party, representatives from the states of Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Mississippi, New Hampshire, and Tennessee met and created the America First Party.  The resolution passed states that the new party’s purpose, “Shall be the restoration of life, faith, freedom, responsibility, and the Constitution of the United States of America.  Also, Dan Charles and John Pittman Hey were elected to the positions they formally held in the Reform Party, on an interim basis.

Five days later, the inaugural National Committee meeting of the America First Party was held by conference call.  “In a spirit of cooperation and unity of purpose, recognizing the need to protect the Constitution and American interests, we adopted a Mission Statement focused on promoting candidates with a commitment to core principles that put America and all Americans first,” said Dan Charles, who was elected Interim Chair—a position he will hold until the Party's founding convention.  The National Committee delegates voted to hold that convention in August.

At the Saturday meeting, the National Committee also adopted a Statement of Principles based on the core beliefs as enacted by the Reform Party platform in July of 2001.  Characterizing this statement, Romelle Winters said, “We reaffirmed our commitment to clean government, to the whole of the Bill of Rights, to revitalizing our nations cultural and moral fabric and opposing the culture of death, to preserving our sovereignty and our economic independence, and to restore the Constitution to its rightful place—as the blueprint for limited government and maximized freedom.”

The meeting was also attended by observers from several states who are considering leaving the Reform Party and joining the America First Party, or starting new America First Party affiliates.  The Mission Statement and Founding Principles are available on the party’s website: http://www.americafirstparty.org.
