DEFEND OUR BORDERS, DON'T DESTROY OUR FREEDOM
Boulder, CO -"One year ago, the American people were attacked. Using our
generosity, technology, and freedoms against us, foreign terrorists entered
our nation, mostly illegally, and murdered 3,000 of our citizens. Today we
remember. Today, we honor. Today, we re-commit ourselves to the values of
our nation's founders and the and the siren call of the everyday heroes of
September 11, 2001," said America First Party National Chairman Dan Charles.
The America First Party is deeply concerned that our elected leaders have
not learned the essential lessons of 9/11. We believe they have instead
used the events of that day as an excuse to promote and implement policies
they say will secure our safety and freedom, but instead diminish our
freedom and do little to enhance our security.
Mr. Charles continued, "Our National Convention delegates, by resolution,
expressed grave concern with certain elements of the Homeland Security
Department Bill. This bill grants draconian powers, which attack the very
freedoms for which generations of Americans fought and died. We must
protect ourselves against those who would attack this nation and her people.
We are at a loss to see how allowing the US military to be used against the
American people--on the whim of the president defending against multination Islamic terror organizations."
Yet the obvious solution of securing our borders from those aliens legal and illegal of our shores is an ongoing obstruction to the safety and well being of
citizens. A closer scrutiny of the hordes of people entering our country has
not been attempted, while infringement on the privacy of Americans has been
increased to a frightening level.
Reminding President Bush of the easiest way to defend our freedoms and our
people, Mr. Charles said in a recent speech, "Mr. President: Do not get
involved in an undeclared war with Iraq. Defend our borders. Do not destroy
the constitutional rights of citizens of this nation. Defend our borders. Do
not give yourself the power to declare martial law. Defend our borders. Do
not make Americans fear their own government. Defend our borders."
We applaud those members of Congress who do understand, and condemn those
leaders for whom understanding is elusive. Recently, members of the
Immigration Caucus confronted the head of Homeland Security over our porous
borders. They report that Tom Ridge responded that controlling our borders
was "not politically and culturally acceptable."
Mr. Charles added, "Mr. President, you placed your hand on the Bible and
took an oath to "protect and defend" the Constitution against all enemies,
foreign or domestic, and have the responsibility to do the same for the
citizens of this country. Your actions so far have not done that. Political
correctness has undermined the responsibility of the government to protect
its citizens. Power lust has undermined the responsibility to defend our
freedoms. Mr. President, leave our freedoms alone. Defend our borders."
MR. CHARLES IS IN THE WASHINGTON, DC AREA THROUGH FRIDAY AND IS AVAILABLE
FOR INTERVIEWS.
