Kill CAFTA

Boulder, CO - The America First Party calls upon all members of the House of Representatives to vote against the CAFTA authorization bill. H.R. 3405 and S. 1307 are identical bills implementing the Dominican Republic-Central America-United States Free Trade Agreement, also know as CAFTA.

National Chairman Dan Charles stated, "CAFTA should be rejected because it is not in the economic, health, or national security interests of the United States or her people. It should be rejected because it is an unconstitutional back-door way to implement a treaty that cannot muster the constitutionally mandated two-thirds vote of the US Senate. Members of the House should demonstrate their courage and their loyalty to their constituents by rejecting CAFTA."

Press Secretary Romelle Winters said, "NAFTA has been a disaster for the American people. Those who supported it claimed it would create American jobs, open new markets, expand our trade surpluses, reduce illegal immigration, improve the standard of living for all participants, and cure the common cold. Twelve years of experience show this all to be a lie. Real wages have declined, as our workers are forced to compete with low-wage labor unencumbered by equivalent environmental or workplace standards in Mexico and ever rising levels of illegal alien workers here at home. Communities have been destroyed as factories have been closed--only to re-open south of the border. Our trade surpluses with Mexico have become large trade deficits, and people still get sick."

Mr. Charles continued, "NAFTA is bad policy. CAFTA expands on that, and is a precursor to the even larger Free Trade Agreement of the Americas (FTAA), an attempt to create a single hemispheric market like the EU. Constitutionally, Congress is to set trade policy, and the American people, through their elected representatives, should decide matters of law and policy--not an unelected group of international bureaucrats whose interests conflict with those of the American people. Congress needs to stand up to the corporate donors and say 'No!' It is time for Congress to put America First."

New York National Committeeman James Arft added, "We are on the side of the American people, in defense of their jobs and keeping American industries. We don't need international socialist elites and multinational corporations making the life and death decisions for this country or for the people of this country. Let your Congressman know you agree with us. Tell your Congressman to kill CAFTA."

The America First Party was founded in April 2002 and is focused on electing principled citizen statesmen who will preserve and protect our people and our sovereignty, promote economic growth and independence, encourage the traditional values of faith, family, and responsibility, ensure equality before the law in protecting those rights granted by the Creator, and clean up our corrupted political system. In 2004, the AFP elected two-thirds of its candidates to public office.
