Stop Amnesty -- Stop the Senate Immigration Bill!
Boulder, CO - The America First Party strongly opposes the recent actions by the Senate and White House to railroad a 790 page immigration bill through Congress. The Senate's compromise will amount to nothing less than amnesty for 12 to 20 million illegal immigrants who are breaking the law by living in the United States.
The Senate has claimed that S. 1348 is not amnesty. However, the facts are clear. The bill grants a probationary status to illegals who come forward to apply. Under this status they are allowed to work, eventually receive a visa, and possibly eventual citizenship, while law abiding would-be immigrants are made to wait for access to the U.S. job market in their home countries. This proposal is amnesty, it is unfair, and it is a reward for lawbreaking.
In addition to encouraging more large-scale illegal migration, amnesty will likely bring huge net costs for the pubic sector which is already in a debt and liability crisis. According to a National Academy of Sciences Study, immigrants with less than a college education use $30,000 to $90,000 of public aid over their lifetimes. At a time when present and future generations of taxpayers are heavily burdened with our government's existing debt, it is not responsible to be adding to their burden.
National Chairman Jon Hill stated: "Providing amnesty for illegal immigrants who willingly break our laws encourages more illegal immigration and lawlessness, and costs the taxpayer at the federal, state, and local level. If the Senate bill goes forward, generations will live with the negative consequences."
Press Secretary John Schweingrouber added: "Our elected officials have heard America's voice loud and clear. Americans don't want amnesty and they want our borders protected now. The cost of amnesty is a nation-killer. It will eventually lead to the bankruptcy of the United States and a loss of our national identity."
The America First Party is opposed to any form of amnesty, regardless of what elected officials choose to call it. Our platform contains detailed prescriptions for ending the present immigration crisis, and for returning the immigration rate to one which has been proven to be sustainable over the course of our nation's history.
