Most disturbing of all the Reverend Dr. Wildmon’s worries is his fear that Mississippi’s “independent streak” will cause the people to vote for the State Flag out of resentment from all the outside interference. Would that they would do so! -- for that would demonstrate to the world that the spirit of freedom is not dead in Mississippi, that it may still be stirred when provoked by the callous lies and vicious attacks of wicked men. In the fight for our Flag, why should the people of Mississippi capitulate to lies? Why should we accept, if only tacitly, the slander spewed forth against our Flag and what it stands for? Why should we accommodate an attack against our Flag, when we know it represents an assault upon our most precious hope of freedom? Why should we kneel before its enemies, the lovers of big government, purveyors of political correctness, and surrender respect and honor for our forebears? Why should good men run away in cowardice and shame because they fear the sneer of the ignorant media and the wrath and hatred of liars? Why, Dr. Wildmon, why should we be overwhelmed by evil? |
